A Twisted Day

Have you ever had one of those days in which it seems that almost everything goes wrong?
Well, if you have not than you can read about my day and if you have had one of those days, than you can sympathize and still read about my twisted day too!

The day started out a little twisted. I had to discipline my 5 year old instead of my 2 year old daughter. Usually, we have had issues with our typically 2 year old strong-willed daughter. Any of you have one of these in your home?
Today was a little different in that, she awoke sweetly and was rather pleasant. However, something got into my 5 year old and bottom-boom I had to deal with her. Our first twist in the day.

I know you are thinking---so?
Just hang in there....it gets more exciting, I promise. We haven't reached the climax yet.

The girls and I set out for the day to a Home School Group gathering at a local gymnastics place. It was an open play for the girls to bounce, jump, climb ropes, etc. They loved it and it was great for them to get exercise and work out all their energy.

However, near the end of the event, I was walking next to Sophia as she walked on the balance beam and I somehow stepped wrong off of the padded mat and twisted my ankle and my 8 month pregnant body landing (rolling) on the floor. (Now, I was not on the balance beam---just next to it). It was not a long fall or anything of that sort. Thankfully, I was surrounded by bounce and give and padded mats. Though, my ankle was screeching in pain. There was no way I was to help Sophia off the beam. She was able to jump off and help mommy to safety. We limped out of there---without anyone really noticing. I came home and put my ankle up---but, I was in a lot of pain. I called the Doctor and was able to get in to see him. There were X-rays done (no clear breaks!) and I ended up coming from the Doctor with a foot boot, crutches, and pain medication. It looks like I have to keep my feet up for a week or so..... I have a severe ankle sprain. The kind that take a long...long...long time to heal. Ugh!
This was twist number two...literally twisted!

And, the ooey gooey part of the day? If you are eating anything delightful or have a weak stomach, I suggest you skip reading this part. Just a kind warning.

As most of you know, we have been slowly potty training Lydia. She is a piece of work I tell ya. She is definitely not as easy as Sophia was to train. However, we are sticking with it.
Lydia went poop in the potty today --which was great! We clapped and shouted words of praise and hoorays. I thought she was done since she went poo and sat on the toilet for about 5 minutes or more. I told her to go to our room (where the diaper changing station is located) and get a pull-up diaper. She ran back to our bedroom and obviously got side tracked...a minute later she came running down the hallway dripping of poop-- a LOT of drippings of poop dribbling down her leg. "Mama, Icky poo poos! Icky poo poos!"
Uck! She went poop again within a matter of a few minutes! This was not just a little poop either. It was a disasterous catastrophic poop! I quickly walk (limp) her to the bathroom and put her in the tub and turn on the water. I then go to clean up dribbles of poop all along the hallway and find it leading back to our bedroom. And, behold there lie the large pile of poo next to the changing table. Good grief, how much could a 26lb 2 year old hold in her tummy!? After washing the floors and then taking on the nasty poop all over Lydia. I thought we were done with it all, when she wanted to "show mama poo"! I thought she was leading me to the pile on the floor in our bedroom....but no, there was more! There on one of my bed pillows and the the floor next to it, was a goo of poo!
"Icky poo poo Mama!"
"Um, yes.....very icky poo poo Lydia!"

Twisted! Just twisted!

Fall Into Reading Challenge

I love this challenge! As most of you know, I have mentioned in the past that I have wanted to get back into reading more often! Well, I started off with my reading fairly well, but then I got quite sidetracked from the pregnancy, two kids, a darling husband, and a to-do project list a mile long.

Since I am still in the midst of pregnancy and expecting in about 2 months, I don't have much time for reading. So my reading list will be rather small and practical for me right now in this stage of my life.

Katrina from Callapidder Days
is encouraging us to set some reading goals and then do our best to meet them. So if you're a reader, post your plans and go link your post at Katrina's place.

Here is my reading list:

Peace Like A River, by Leif Enger

I started reading this awhile ago and I would like to finish this book up! It is a great book so far and I am anxious to pick it up again and read!

BabyWise

I have read this book several times, but I think I need a refresher read for this next baby!

*************************************************************************************
Reading with the Girls:

I am also wanting to read even more with my girls. I signed Lydia and I up for a reading class at the YMCA once a week. She likes it. There is story time, crafts, and songs each week. We bring home a bag of books to read during the week. This perfect for me and my little 2 year old!

With Sophia we are planning to finish reading: Anne of Green Gables. The classic starts series is wonderful selection of books that makes it easier for a younger mind to comprehend the story line.

We will then begin reading "The Bobbsey Twins on a Houseboat"

Monday Meanderings September 24th

Boo hoo! I never did get to Meanderings last week ---it was a crazy week! And, really I don't think this week is much easier. But, I did set aside some time to write this out....then it is off to cleaning! My Doctor told me that I need to rest more. I can't believe how tired I am with this third baby! But, God is carrying me through each day. When I am relying on him each day, each moment, He is my strength and my Song! Otherwise, when I am in my own strength---I crash! So, for this week I am really trying to focus on spending more time with the Lord--singing, worshiping, praying, meditating etc. And, I need to re-evaluate my priorities and the amount of activities we are involved with....because I really do need to get more rest for the sake of this baby! I took a warm relaxing bath last night! :-)

The Five areas:

  1. Bible Study/Devotions
  2. Must Do
  3. Zone / Cleaning
  4. Train Them Up
  5. Menu Planning

Bible Study/Devotions:
I am continuing with my two devotional and Bible study books. I am also trying to read through Romans in preparation for my Pastor's sermons coming up! Also.....playing worship music in our home!

I will be doing Joy Breaks as a quick devotional time.

"Loving God with All Your Mind" by Elizabeth George.

Must Do:

  • Organize/Declutter Office (I need to get this done to bring order to our home---this has yet to be done!!!!)
  • Write out plans for Christmas and Thanksgiving. We are having baby then, and I want to have as much planned out as possible
  • Make Menu Plan and list of foods to freeze for Nov. & Dec.
  • Continue to create my "Blessed Home Notebook"

Zone/ Cleaning:
This week I am working on the Master Bedroom. I am following Rachel's (from A Juggling Housewife) weekly list of Zones to clean. This week I will be on Week #3 (Master Bedroom). I didn't get around to it last week---so, I will do it this week!

Train Them Up:
This week is a busy week for us with having something to attend everyday this week. But, I want to make sure that I am taking time to spend with my girls. Having a devotional time with them is essential. To add to the devotional time, I thought about taking some time to sing songs. My girls love to sing! I got some cute CD's to sing along with. We may get out instruments and play along too!

Menu Planning:
I planned my menu for this week. Go here to see what we are feeding our bellies! Also, there is a great recipe there for a No-knead bread! Check it out!

Monday Menu September 24th

What do we do with our cash fund for groceries empty? We pray for a stocked pantry and freezer! God is good and He is providing. My mom came to visit this weekend and brought lots of yummies and goodies! We are so blessed! Homegrown tomatoes, beets, green beans, onions and more! Plus, she brought some much needed other items for our pantry and freezer. AND...she made us a homemade blackberry/raspberry pie! The fruit is from their yard! Delicious!
I can't forget that my DH made YUMMO homemade bread this weekend too! I love his bread that he makes. It is so simple and so healthy. I will give you the recipe below (he uses about 2/3 whole wheat flour and 1/3 all purpose).
We are deliciously blessed this week! I will not need to do an ounce of shopping (we don't have any means to do so). Therefore, my menu this week is based off of what is left in my pantry, freezer, or the goodies that my Mama brought me! (Thank you Mimi)! God is good ---ALL the time!

An Apple A Day...

My Lil' Daisies love apples! In fact, I have a "display" centerpiece bowl that I filled with apples and nuts and Lydia loves to go over there and grab an apple and take a bite.
It is a good thing that apples are in season right now. We are savoring their sweetness! I wish we lived closer to an apple orchard or knew someone with one....it would be fun to have lots of apples to make Apple Pie Filling, Applesauce and Apple Butter! Yum! I suppose the Farmer's Market will have to do. Though, I should think in investing in buying an apple tree for our yard! There are so many varieties of apples. What are your favorite?

Well, better go keep the Doctor away.....

Seasonal Delights --Autumn

Ecclesiastes 3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

Autumn is a second spring... when every leaf is a flower

If asked about my favorite season ---I would have to say: All of them! There is something that I enjoy/LOVE about each Season. And, of course, there are things I don't like. But, for the most part there are special memories associated with each Season. We are now approaching the Autumn and the warm cozy feelings are tingling my tozies! So, pull up a pumpkin and I will pour some Hot Chai and we can chat about the wonders of Fall.

Cinnamon, Acorns, Apples, Pumpkin Pie, Apple Pie, Pumpkins in the Corn fields, Gourds, Harvest, Orange Tea, hot apple cider Golden, Scarlet, Rust, Orange colored leaves, butternut squash soup, pecans and other nuts, candy corn, ginger, caramel, crisp breezes....

Here is a new ezine (magazine online) called Seasonal Delights and it is free. This is their first issue and it is fabulous! There are some delicious recipes, crafts, games, poetry, etc. Just reading it put me in the mood for fall (even if it is 106 degrees outside). Hence, the prompting of this post about Autumn.

Like ivy on a garden wall, our lives are entwined with the four seasons. By celebrating the simple joys that each one brings, you can make memories of love and friendship along the way. The things you see, hear, taste, feel, and smell can be your guide for the time you spend together. After all, at the end of the day, that time is what will be treasured the most!
(Kelly from Seasonal Delights)

I have been playing some "Fall Music" that has weaved me even more into the loom of Autumn. There is a CD that my best friend from Germany gave me a few years ago.

It is called A Classic Thanksgiving Songs of Praise

I also love listening to Celtic Music: I watched the Celtic Women on PBS awhile ago with my daughter. They have such beautiful serene voices.

Here is another great one: Harvest by Neil Young

You should check out Michael Hedges album Breakfast in the Field --it is intensely beautiful guitar playing.

And you can't for get about Vivaldi: "Autumn" from The Four Seasons

We also love to read books ---so why not read books about the Season? Here are some of our favorite.
A sweet children's book: Hello, Harvest Moon

A treasure of a book: Thanksgiving: A Time to Remember

Also, I cannot write a post about Autumn without leaving a yummy recipe! I found this recipe on-line and it looks very delicious (or in Rachel Ray words Yummo!)

The Hips and Haps---Is there a point to this?

I've realized that I have not really written in my blog in awhile. We have been busy with preparing for baby's arrival after Thanksgiving sometime....so, I haven't really sat down to take the time to write.
I had my Doctor's appointment today and he told me to rest more. He gave me a presecription for anxiety and for physical therapy massage....so, I am taking the hint to rest. I decided tonight to sit on my couch with the computer and ramble about life here at the Lil' Daisy Farm. (Okay, we don't live on a farm, but it sounded cute, and truly sometimes I think there are farm animals living in my house. We have lots of incessent moos and woofs and neighs!)
Pregnancy-- I am 7 months, almost 8 months along and HUGE. About everyday I am asked if I am having twins...
Are you sure there are not two of them in there?
Are you sure they have the correct due date?
Yes, there are not twins and Yes, the due date is correct! Hey, I am 5' 2" tall! There is nowhere else for my belly to go but out! And, everything else expands too....just my luck to have baby chub in my booty, thighs, arms, face, fingers, left big toe!
I am getting used to the comments though, since this being my third pregnancy and I looked HUGE with all of them.
So, we have decided to use cloth diapers with this baby. I am actually really excited and nervous, because there are so many options out there now for cloth diapering. It is amazing. We cloth diapered our first baby, but had a diapering service and used what they had. Now, I go on the internet and find sooooo many options and cute stuff too. I am thinking of trying a few different brands and options and seeing what works best. I will have to do another post about that.
Speaking of potty----Lydia is still NOT potty trained. However, everyday there seems to be a little improvement. Today she went three times in the potty! Yeah! Hand Applause!
So, we are slowly working on it. I am not really able to bend over and clean up the messes anymore with my ever expanding abdomen, so I have "Super Cleaner Girl" to the rescue. Yes, I am blessed with an almost 5 year old that loves to help by cleaning up her younger sister's mess. She is so funny! "Mama, Super Cleaner Girl can do it! " ---as she gets down on hands and knees with paper towels and wipees and cleans it all up! I am so proud to have a Super Cleaner Girl!

So....I found a great deal at MICHAELS store on Christmas paper. I love the $1 bins. You can find lots of good loot in there (perfect for baby shower prize gifts, christmas gifts, bithday gifts, etc.) Well, I happened to find some Christmas paper, envelopes, and stickers! I was soooo excited. I now have Christmas paper to print up our X-mas letter (already written)! I know you you are thinking I am weird, but hey my goal is to have not much to do but hold and nurse my baby for the month of December. To that, I think I am pretty smart and clever and organized!
Can you believe I already have about 97% of my Christmas shopping done? Yep! Sure do!

I cleaned and de-cluttered both bathrooms. (Hand Applause) I came up with a super idea for medicines. Well, my hubby might have, but I did it and expanded on it. I will have to show you a pic of it sometime. We use a clear tackle box from Walmart and put all our medicine needs in there. I have one for grown-up medicines and then another for the kids. It works great! I even went through all the medicines and threw out all the outdated medicines. I love it because it is all in one place!

I suppose I better end this long and boring to most of you post. I need to look more on-line at diapers and slings and fun baby stuff..... I am suppose to rest. I may even go take a bath! Ah, now that sounds like a great idea.
More to come.....

Monday Meanderings September 10th

I am finally getting to Monday Meanderings for this week. I do feel pretty overwhelmed, especially when I looked at my calendar for this week. What happened? All of the sudden, everything is starting (MOPS, AWANAS) and things just piled up onto my calendar. Phew! So, if you don't hear from me much this week...it is because I will be super busy with "stuff". I also have a group of ladies coming over for lunch at my house on Friday. I need to get the house ready for that too! Phew!
I pray that I take time for my devotions though, because in the midst of "buzy-beeness" I need the Lord for strength and endurance. I need HIS breath of air!
I hope to by the end of this week (most likely next week) share with you some pictures of several projects complete in my house. Remember my list? I haven't forgotten and I have been working on many of these areas. It is slowly coming along. It is so nice to have accomplished a project!

Dancing With God

I read this on Tiany's Blog today and thought I would share with the rest of you. Have a blessed weekend!

Dancing With God

When I meditated on the word Guidance,

I kept seeing 'dance' at the end of the word.

I remember reading that doing God's will is a lot like dancing.

When two people try to lead, nothing feels right.

The movement doesn't flow with the music,

and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky.

When one person realizes that, and lets the other lead,

both bodies begin to flow with the music.

One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back

or by pressing Lightly in one direction or another.

It's as if two become one body, moving beautifully.

The dance takes surrender, willingness,

and attentiveness from one person

and gentle guidance and skill from the other.

My eyes drew back to the word Guidance.

When I saw 'G': I thought of God, followed by 'u' and 'i'.

'God, 'u' and 'i' dance.'

God, you, and I dance.

As I lowered my head, I became willing to trust

that I would get guidance about my life.

Once again, I became willing to let God lead.

My prayer for you today is that God's blessings

and mercies are upon you on this day and everyday.

May you abide in God, as God abides in you.

Dance together with God, trusting God to lead

and to guide you through each season of your life

Little Life Lessons

Breakfast: Oatmeal w/ raisins.

Lydle Daisy decided not to eat but rather play with her breakfast. As she was playing with her oatmeal, I told her to stop playing, otherwise she will be done. She stopped for a moment to look and listen to mom's lecture and then looked back at her bowl. Sure enough, holding her spoon in one hand, she used her empty hand to grab a big glob of oatmeal goo and smear it on her hair. So, that was it.
Being a good Mommy and following through with my threat,
I took off her tray, carried her to our shower, turned on the shower spray and sprayed her oatmeal covered hair, clothes, and all! She did not like it one bit....but too bad....Mommy said no playing and Mommy is NOT feeling very good to be patient with any disobedience.

Lesson learned: Don't use oatmeal as a means of conditioning your hair unless you enjoy taking showers with your breakfast and clothes on!

Sweet Goodness

This morning two year old Lil' Daisy and I went to the farmer's market! We had fun getting garden grown tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and fruit. We came across a little stand with a sweet elderly couple behind it. They were selling asian pears. How exciting! They gave us a little taste and Lil' Daisy was very happy with the little "asian apple" in her hand. It was sweet, juicy, and crunchy just like an apple---so she called it apple. We bought several and enjoyed our sweet treat for the remainder of our little farmer's market shopping spree! Gotta love sweet, healthy wholesome family grown goodness!

Monday Meanderings September 3rd

I hope everyone is having (had) a great Labor Day Weekend! My weekend was great because I didn't go anywhere and didn't do much! Yeah! It was nice to stay home for a change. We have been gone for the past 3-4 weekends. Now, don't think I was lazy all weekend (though that would be nice). No, no, no...I was able to get quite a bit organized and cleaned! My DH cleaned the kitchen for me and it looks beautiful! His mom also came on Saturday and played with the girls while I was able to get a few things done. Then, she took one of the Lil' Daisies home with her! Yeah! DH left Sunday night to go down to Grandma's house to pick up the lil' daisy while taking the other daisy with him too. This meant that I had all of Monday to do my own list of things without having to take little squirt potty every 20 minutes, make meals, wipe bottoms and faces, stop bickering between siblings, etc. Ah, for one day it is a nice break.

The Five areas:
  1. Bible Study/Devotions
  2. Must Do
  3. Zone / Cleaning
  4. Train Them Up
  5. Menu Planning

Bible Study/Devotions:
I am continuing with my two devotional and Bible study books. I am also trying to read through Romans in preparation for my Pastor's sermons coming up! Also.....playing worship music in our home!

  • Make List of all addresses for Christmas Cards
  • Continue to create my "Blessed Home Notebook"

Zone/ Cleaning:
This week I am working on the Master Bedroom. I am following Rachel's (from A Juggling Housewife) weekly list of Zones to clean. This week I will be on Week #3 (Master Bedroom)

Train Them Up:
I will be continuing to read devotional book with girls. Also, I want to spend some time "playing" with my girls. I feel many times I am busy with cleaning, organizing, business stuff, that I neglect to just be with my girls and play. So this week I plan to make sure to spend some time in playing with them (without thinking of things on my "to-do" list)!

Menu Planning:
I planned my menu for this week. Go here to see what we are feeding our bellies! Also, you can learn about America's#1 Frugal Family ( it is not us....yet!)
